Type of project

An educational project in which students are challenged to think about how to make our world more inclusive and what role they can play in this process.

Location

Deventer, The Netherlands

"Inclusive, Not Special" is an educational project in which students are challenged to think about how to make our world more inclusive and what role they can play in this process. Students engage in dialogue with each other about diversity and inclusion, learning to form and refine their own opinions. Subsequently, each student selects and explores their own inclusion theme to raise awareness about. They achieve this by creating communication materials such as videos and web pages, and by organizing actions to involve the outside world in the chosen theme.

Brainstorm session with Studio Z team members and teachers from special school De Linde VSO

Throughout the project, I engaged in meaningful dialogues with educational professionals and neurodiverse highschool students, delving into topics of diversity and inclusion. This process not only broadened my perspective but also empowered me to articulate and refine my own opinions. The heart of the project lay in each student's exploration of an individual inclusion theme, a topic we felt passionate about advocating for.

The end result is a group of socially conscious students who know how to bring attention to issues of inclusion among their peers. In order to strive for a world where inclusivity is not a special consideration but an integral part of our collective consciousness.
